Midnight Sun Float
Join Alaska Wilderness Enterprises for a once in a lifetime scenic float on a pristine Alaska river.
Our trips take place daily from Fairbanks Alaska and are designed for all age classes.
They are natural history based trips with the intent of giving visitors a glimpse into wild Alaska that might otherwise not be encountered on a typical Alaska vacation.
These trips take place in the Chena River Recreational Area which was formed in 1982 as a wild scenic river corridor. Chena River Recreational Area is a 250,000 acre park focusing on the river corridor and offers hiking, dog mushing, and four wheeler trails, as well as having recreational cabins available for rent.
The Upper Chena River is one of the only interior rivers that are not muddied due to glacial runoffs. It is a spring fed clear water stream with a gravel bottom as opposed to the Lower Chena River which runs through Fairbanks and, due to tributaries along the way, has a muddy river bed and silty water.
The river hosts a small king salmon run as well as a chum Salmon Run and from mid July to September, spawning fish can be observed.
Other animals that can be seen are bald eagles, moose, beaver, otter, bear, and a host of songbirds. On some trips the Granite Tors rock formation can be seen from the river corridor.
